Conclusions of the Mind (νόημα)

How a person’s mind works is seen in their actions, which are a result of the conclusions the mind makes. By taking the word for mind and adding a specific ending, the Greek language is expressing the result of the working of the mind, so not just the thoughts, but the conclusions resulting from our thoughts.

As Christians, we are not to be ignorant of the workings of Satan’s mind (2 Corinthians 2:11). In Scripture, the methods that he uses are revealed to us (Ephesians 6:11); therefore, we are to stand firm against him. He also blinds the results of the working of the mind for those who do not believe (2 Corinthians 4:4). When presented with the truth of Scripture, the suppositions of those blinded are incorrect. A good example with this is the Gospel for Salvation, which is clearly stated in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4. Yet how many “gospel” tracks modify the message of the gospel to “repenting of your sins”, “making Jesus the Lord of your life” and so on, which are different gospels that are not good news at all (Galatians 1:6).

Due to Israel’s rejection of God’s covenant of promise and seeking their own righteousness, even today, when they read the Old Testament a veil covers the mind (2 Corinthians 3:14) so they do not understand and draw proper conclusions based upon what it states.

We have a renewed mind in Christ, a mind that can understand the things of the Spirit and produces correct suppositions based upon fact so it is able to discern what is the will of God (Romans 12:2). When we do not use this frame of mind, we can be led astray from the simplicity that is in Christ […]

The Purpose and Meaning of Communion

In the night in which Christ was betrayed, He took of bread and a cup to implement a reminder for all those who would come to salvation after His resurrection.

The cup of eulogy that we eulogize, is it not the sharing in common with the blood of the Christ? The bread that we break, is it not the sharing in common with the body of the Christ? – 1 Corinthians 10:16.

The Christ is the new creation God made, having raised Christ from the dead, in which Jesus is the head and the Church is the body.

So that since someone is in Christ, a new creation, old things have passed away, behold all things have become new – 2 Corinthians 5:17.

For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, being many are one body, thus also is the Christ – 1 Corinthians 12:12.

and He put all things under His feet and gave to Him [the] head concerning all the Church, which is His body – Ephesians 1:22-23a.

When we partake in communion, it is a reminder that as part of the Church we are all in one body and under a new covenant. Therefore, we all have equality within the body of Christ and are to be treating each other accordingly, for we are all part of one. It is through this new creation (the Christ) that Jesus’ death and resurrection are imputed to us, and we are no longer condemned before God (Romans 8:1).

For I received from the Lord what I also handed over to you, that the lord Jesus in the night that He was betrayed took bread and having given thanks He broke it and […]

Apostasy (ἀποστασία)

Apostasy means “to stand away from”. It is created by taking the Greek preposition ἀπὸ (from) and adding it to ἵστημι (to stand). Unfortunately, often times the English definition of this word is implied to Scripture, rather than its proper translated meaning.

This is especially prevalent in 2 Thessalonians where some imply that before the coming of Christ there will be a departure from the faith. However, what is being departed from must be defined by context because apostasy (ἀποστασία) only means “to stand away from”. The English definition adds “from the faith”. This is one of the issues that is caused by not translating a word. The transliterated word begins to take on a definition of its own that does not reflect the meaning of the original word. This new definition is then applied to the original, perverting its meaning.

Apostasy (ἀποστασία) is used for departing from a religious system, but what is being departed from is defined by the context. In Acts 21 James is speaking with Paul as he tries to outwit the Jews in Jerusalem because they have been told that Paul teaches the Jews among the Gentiles to forsake Moses.

And it has been reported to them concerning you, that you teach departure from Moses, all the Jews according to the Gentiles saying, do not circumcise their children nor walk in the customs – Acts 21:21.

However, apostasy is also used of departing from the earth. In 2 Thessalonians, Paul is writing of the day of the Lord when we will gather together with Him. In 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, where Paul gives more details on what happens at this time, our meeting is in the air.

Now I request you, brethren, concerning the coming of […]
