The Law of The Christ

Caring for Members of the Body

Pastor Luther Walker

In the book of Galatians[1] Paul states that the bearing of another person’s weight[2] is filling up again the law of the Christ; yet, in Romans he writes that a Christian is not under any quality of law[3]. How do we reconcile passages of Scripture that seem to contradict each other? What does Scripture mean when it states a Christian is not under any quality of law, yet then indicates there is a law of the Christ and a law of the Spirit? Is a Christian under law or not? Ultimately this leads to the underlying question, “As a Christian, what are the guidelines for my life?” To better understand the rules of our household[4], that is to say God’s expectation for how the saved are to live their life today, we can examine how the word “law” is used in Scripture along with its normal meaning and use in everyday life so we know the difference between being under the Mosaic Law or any quality of law and filing up again the Law of the Christ by loving another saint while fulfilling the law the Spirit of life by our walk.

Since we are in the Dispensation of Grace, not the Dispensation of Law, the standard for our household is different. Scripture is very clear on the fact that a Christian is not under the Mosaic Law or any quality of law[5]; however, there is still a standard by which those who are a […]

2018 Theological Forum

Each one mature in Christ

The Theological Forum is an annual three day event. The purpose of the Forum is that saints with an appetite for God and His Word might be edified through the presentation of papers.

Printed papers are written and an oral presentation of each paper is given. In April 2017 220 pages were presented and distributed. Papers will be available through the www.vbcoregon.org website after the Forum. The goal of the Forum is to examine the Word of God and to encourage saints to submit to the authority of the Scriptures and especially grace revelation (c. Jn. 13-Rev. 3) which will bring glory to our great God.

Philippians – Our Citizenship

Nevertheless, into that which we have arrived, to step by this rule. To frame the mind the same all of you become co-imitators of me, brethren. And all of you scope out the ones thusly walking just as all of you have our example. For many walk, of whom often I have spoken to you, but now also weeping I say, the enemies of the cross of Christ, whose end is destruction, whose god is the belly and the glory in their shame, the ones framing their minds on earthly things. For our citizenship exists in heavens, out from which also a Savior we eagerly await, Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform the body of our humiliation resulting in it to become together conformed with the body of His glory according to the working of His natural ability even to subject all things to Himself.

Philippians – Pursuing the Mark

If, assuming it is true, in what manner I should attain unto the out resurrection, the one out from the dead. Not that I already have received it, nor already am in a state of having been made mature, but I pursue it, since also I should apprehend on the basis of that which also has apprehended me in the Christ Jesus. Brethren, I do not reckon to myself that I have apprehended it, but one thing, the things behind, on the one hand, I forget, on the other hand, those things in front I stretch towards and I pursue according to a mark on the basis of the prize of the above calling from God in Christ Jesus. Therefore as many as are mature, we should frame the mind in this way, and if anyone of you frames the mind differently, also this the God will reveal to you.

Philippians – Suffering for Christ

Philippians

because to you it was graciously given on behalf of the Christ not only to believe in Him but also to suffer on behalf of Him, while having the same struggle, of the sort you intuitively see in me, and now you hear by me.Therefore, since there is some exhortation in Christ; since there is some solace of love; since there is some sharing in common of Spirit; since there is some compassion and pity, all of you fill up where my joy is lacking, in order that all of you are of the same frame of mind, while having the same love, together souled, while framing the mind on the one thing. Nothing as measured by rivalry or conceited pride, but in the humility of mind considering other as having more value than yourself. Do not scope out each of your own things, but also of each different one’s things.
