The Law of The Christ

In the book of Galatians[1] Paul states that the bearing of another person’s weight[2] is filling up again the law of the Christ; yet, in Romans he writes that a Christian is not under any quality of law[3]. How do we reconcile passages of Scripture that seem to contradict each other? What does Scripture mean when it states a Christian is not under any quality of law, yet then indicates there is a law of the Christ and a law of the Spirit? Is a Christian under law or not? Ultimately this leads to the underlying question, “As a Christian, what are the guidelines for my life?” To better understand the rules of our household[4], that is to say God’s expectation for how the saved are to live their life today, we can examine how the word “law” is used in Scripture along with its normal meaning and use in everyday life so we know the difference between being under the Mosaic Law or any quality of law and filing up again the Law of the Christ by loving another saint while fulfilling the law the Spirit of life by our walk.

Philippians

Now I determine for you to experientially know, brethren, that the things according to me have come more unto progress of the gospel, so that my bonds in Christ came to be clearly manifested among all the Praetorian guard and all the remaining. And the greater of the brethren in [the] Lord, after being persuaded by my bonds, exceedingly dare without fear to speak the Word. Some on the one hand also because of envy and strife, some on the other hand also because of good pleasure, are proclaiming the Christ. 1.16 On the one hand, the ones out from selfish ambition proclaim the Christ not sincerely, supposing to bring tribulation upon my bonds. Philippians – Introduction

PhilippiansIntroduction to the Book of Philippians

Written in 64 A.D. by Paul from a Roman prison to the saint, bishops, and deacons in Philippi.

Paul and Timothy, servants belonging to Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus, the ones who are in Philippi, with the Bishops and Deacons. Grace [is] to you and peace from God our Father and Lord Jesus Christ.  I give thanks to the God upon every remembrance of you,  always in all my supplication on behalf of all of you, while making the supplication with joy,  on the basis of your fellowship into the gospel from the first day until now, being persuaded of this same thing, that the One having begun in you a good work will bring it to its intended end until a day of Christ Jesus. Just as it is right for me to think this concerning all of you, because I have you in my heart, in both my bonds, and in the defense even confirmation of the gospel, all of you being my partners of the grace. The Letter to the Ephesians

The letter to the Ephesian saints was written by Paul, the apostle and the steward of the dispensation of grace, in 62 A.D. from Rome to reveal to the Church the mystery of God, which He kept hidden until now, and give instruction on how to live the Christian life, including how to overcome an attack from Satan.

Ephesians Translation
